Registration is closed for this event
VEDIC CULTURAL SOCIETY OF EAST ANGLIA in association with JEEYAR EDUCATIONAL TRUST UK inviting you all for the Lakshmi Pooja on the occasion of DI:PA:VALI / DIWALI.
Di:pa:vali is a Sanskrit word meaning 'Di:pa:na:m a:valihi Di:pa:vali', an “ARRAY OF LIGHTS”. Di:pa:vali falls on the last day of the month of A:swayuja according to the lunar calendar. The day before the last day is called “Naraka Chathurdasi”. The day after Naraka Chaturdasi is called “Ama:va:sya”, and was celebrated with lights. It came to be known as “Di:pa:vali Ama:va:sya”. People washed and decorated their houses, and that night they invite Maha:lakshmi into their homes and worship her because to regain the wealth and prosperity. We offer many sweets and request Her to always grace us. This practice is prevalent even today.
