Namma:lva:r was one of the twelve A:lva:r saints who are known for their affiliation to the Sri: Vaishnava tradition. Thiruva:imozhi is an ancient Tamil text consisting of 1102 verses which were sung by the poet-saint Namma:lva:r as an expression of his devotion to Lord Sri:manna:ra:yana. A:lva:r uses imagination and various metaphors throughout the poems sometimes imagining himself to be one of the female consorts of Lord Krushna. The concept of bhakti – true and eternal love is reflected in these verses.
Namma:lva:r declares that Lord Sri:manna:ra:yana blessed him with divine, blemishless knowledge and devotion out of His own mercy. Subsequently, a:lva:r establishes that Lord Na:ra:yana preached His own glories through the words of Namma:lva:r and thus became Thiru-va:i-mozhi.
This book contains the First and Second centums of the Ten centums of Thiruva:imozhi pa:surams with meaning and its corresponding pu:rva:cha:rya commentary in English.
